When our legislators signed extreme gun control measures into law in 2013, they did so with the promise of a safer state. Seven years later and we haven’t seen the results they were looking for.
Instead of the dropping homicide rates they were hoping for, our leaders are now seeing that the Maryland Firearms Safety Act of 2013 has been followed by years of increasing violence.
A recent study by State Delegate Dan Cox found that numerous counties have seen significant increases in homicides since the enactment of the bill, some by triple digits.
Hershon Legal LLC’s principal, Edward Hershon, is proud to have been quoted in the Delegate’s press release for the study, having said that “The promises made by then Governor O’Malley and Senator Brian Frosh (now Maryland Attorney General) that the state of Maryland would be safer as a result of these laws, have proven not to be true. In fact, just the opposite. Now the same people who advocated for some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country are doubling down thinking that these new laws will solve the problems of a higher murder rate. This is the ultimate definition of insanity, doing the same thing thinking the result will change.”
